Seventh-day Adventist drowned while working on a mission project in the Philippines, officials of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada confirmed. Joel Mosher, 27, was recently elected head deacon at Rest Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sidney, British Columbia.

Initial reports indicated that Mosher went swimming while on a rest break and was caught in an undercurrent.

Joel enjoyed the outdoors and regularly hiked, camped and backpacked. Joel’s love for travel and outreach led to his decision to join the team of 13 people going to the Philippines on a mission trip to build a church and medical clinic, while conducting evangelistic meetings and a Vacation Bible School program. The group continued the project, knowing this is what Joel would have wanted.
