Hillsboro Spanish Church
Cited for Innovation

he Hillsboro Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church of Portland, Oregon was named 2008 Innovative Church of the Year by the North American Division’s Church Resource Center October 6, during the fourth annual church-sponsored Conference on Innovation.

Hillsboro Spanish offers health fairs, food banks, free hair cuts and worship opportunities that incorporate Mexican music and folk culture. One in 15 members of the local Spanish community now attend the church because of its community service ministries, says NAD Church Resource Center associate director Dave Gemmell.

The innovation award is part of the Church Resource Center's goal to stimulate and affirm congregations that have successfully taken risks in adapting the church's message of hope to better connect with the community, Gemmell says.
