Adventist Risk Management Appoints New Vice President

dventist Risk Management, Inc. (ARM) has appointed Sharon M. Mabena vice president.

Joining ARM in 2003, Mabena has worked as an internal auditor, chief accountant, and most recently as director of accounting. Her new position will involve the overseeing of the Underwriting, Risk Placement, Claims, and Legal departments, as well as working as corporate secretary for the companies managed by ARM: Gencon Insurance Company of Vermont, Gencon International Insurance Company, Ltd., Gencon Insurance Service, Inc., and Gencon Agency, Inc. She fills the position vacated by Karnik Doukmetzian, now serving as general counsel for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mabena’s background in business administration and accounting has prepared her for her new responsibilities. “Sharon has brought a wealth of experience to the company with her financial background and her ability to improve systems,” says Robert L. Sweezy, ARM president. “Serving as the accounting director for three years, she worked very closely with the insurance companies and is familiar with the business working of ARM and its ministry to the Seventh-day Adventist church. We look forward to her joining the team of ARM officers.”

Mabena is ready to accept the challenge and to use her gifts to serve the Lord. “It is a privilege to serve the Lord in any capacity,” says Mabena, “and this role will give me greater opportunities to be of service to Him. I look forward to the challenge of enhancing the way we do business, by streamlining processes and integrating systems throughout the company to enable us to continue to service our clients more efficiently.”

Mabena is a native of Zambia and a graduate of Oakwood College (now Oakwood University) in Huntsville, Alabama, where she earned her degree in business administration. She earned her MBA from Vanderbilt University, in Nashville, Tennessee. Mabena is also a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor. She is married to Hymie, an ordained minister, and they have three children. The Mabena family attends the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Beltsville, Maryland.
