Roy Adams was the latest recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Society of Adventist Communicators at its annual convention in Rochester, New York, October 16, 2010.
Adams, an associate editor of Adventist Review since 1988, announced his retirement, effective November 1, capping a career in the Adventist Church that spans nearly 50 years as a teacher, pastor, theology professor, administrator, author, and conference/camp meeting speaker.

“This is an award that Roy richly deserves, for he has the distinction of being the longest-serving full-time associate editor in the 160-year history of the Adventist Review,” said Bill Knott, editor and executive publisher. “His grasp of the editorial and production processes, his keen sense of when to take a public stand on a vital issue, and his awareness of the pulse of the Adventist reading public have greatly blessed both Adventist Review and Adventist World.”
Adams began his career in the South Caribbean Conference in 1961. Since then he has served as a pastor in Ontario, Canada, and as a theology professor at Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS) near Manila, Philippines. He was serving as secretary of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada in 1988 when William Johnsson, then-editor of Adventist Review, invited Adams to join the staff of the church’s flagship magazine.
In addition to his work writing and editing for Adventist Review, and since 2005 for Adventist World, Adams has written seven books. In 2008 he authored “The Wonder of Jesus,” a series of Sabbath school Bible studies for the Adult Bible Study Guide.
Adams is often in demand as a camp meeting speaker, and his travels have taken him to nearly every continent on earth. He was twice featured at the Ministry Professional Growth Seminars, cosponsored by Ministry magazine and the General Conference Ministerial Association and broadcast live, via satellite, to downlink sites all over the world.
