Justin Hanna, 18, an Oakwood University freshman from Florence, South Carolina, drowned March 23, 2012, in a body of water at a property known as the “Rock Quarry” near the Seventh-day Adventist Church-owned school’s campus in Huntsville, Alabama.
Friends and paramedics attempted to help Hanna, but were unsuccessful, media reports indicate. He was pronounced dead at Huntsville Hospital. An investigation is continuing.
Oakwood spokesman Tim Allston, in a statement, said the quarry was “a property owned by Oakwood University, but on a long-term lease to an outside company.”
"Oakwood University is saddened greatly" at Hannah's passing, Allston said.
