I was near 20 years of age when I decided to visit relatives in the midwest of the United States. I left home in Oregon, headed to Michigan to visit my uncle and his wife. Other relatives lived farther east, but this uncle had worked for years in the Cadillac division of General Motors. They lived about 10 miles north of Detroit.

They were happy to see me, and they invited me to stay with them. In order not to be a burden to them, I found a job as a caddy at the Clinton Valley Country Club.

An Unusual Foursome
After working for some time, I was doing quite well financially. I wasn’t getting rich, but I enjoyed working outdoors.
